The theme for World Suicide Prevention Day for 2024-2026 is “Changing the Narrative on Suicide” with the call to action “Start the Conversation” (WHO, 2024).

WHO says, “Changing the narrative on suicide is about transforming how we perceive this complex issue and shifting from a culture of silence and stigma to one of openness, understanding, and support”.

In line with the above, Curtin University offers a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) titled ‘Improving mental health and suicide prevention in young adults’ on EdX.org. This six-module route aims to equip individuals including teens, parents, and instructors to understand and deal with mental fitness problems.

Dr Ben Milbourn from Curtin University highlights the relevance of the program given the high occurrence of mental fitness issues among the youth. He further added, “Upon completion of this MOOC, learners will have a clearer understanding of what mental health is and how best to recognise and respond to mental health concerns, such as negative thoughts and behaviours.”

Curtin University also offers a shorter, two-week MOOC titled ‘Managing Study, Stress and Mental Health at University’.

These MOOCs are provided free of cost and accessible to all. To know more and enrol, visit the links below:
