Curtin University Dubai was invited to deliver hands-on workshops at Dubai English Speaking College (DESC) Careers Awareness Week. The DESC Careers Week featured a wide variety of informative and interactive discussions on future careers and vocational activities.
Mr Daniel Adkins, CEO of Curtin University Dubai’s academic infrastructure provider, Transnational Academic Group Middle East (TAG-ME), spoke on ‘Global Business Trends’. Students enjoyed the CEO’s talk; they also had the opportunity to engage with him at the Careers Café.
As part of imparting practical skills through hands-on learning, Ms Teneille Saayam, Media Lecturer at Curtin Dubai School of Arts conducted a workshop titled ‘Being a Photographer’. Students learned the tricks of mobile photography as she gave them valuable tips on editing on the go.
Curtin Dubai’s School of Science and Engineering students also conducted a live demonstration of their ‘Supersonic Ping Pong Ball Machine’ under strict guidance of Dr Pon Selvan, Head of School – Science and Engineering, and Mr Mahesh Raj Nagaraja, Lecturer, Curtin Dubai’s School of Engineering. DESC students had the opportunity to witness and learn basic concepts of physics and engineering as the machine fired ping pong balls at supersonic speeds – fast enough to go through a thick thermocol sheet.
The DESC Careers Awareness Week was a unique and innovative platform for students to learn and experience Curtin’s renowned degree programs offered in Dubai.
