Curtin University Dubai has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with LatConnect60, a Western Australia–based satellite and earth observation company, to strengthen opportunities for students in the emerging space-technology sector.

The agreement, signed on 24 June 2025, will support collaboration in areas including satellite data applications, earth observation technologies, and industry-aligned learning. The partnership reflects Curtin Dubai’s commitment to providing students with exposure to applied research and sector-relevant skills across technology and innovation disciplines.

LatConnect60 develops low-earth orbit satellite solutions used in food security, water resource mapping and climate monitoring. Through the partnership, Curtin Dubai students will have opportunities to engage with real-world projects, receive mentorship from space-industry professionals, and explore pathways into the growing global space-tech workforce.

LatConnect60 Chief Executive Officer and Founder Venkat Pillay said the collaboration builds on the company’s longstanding relationship with Curtin University in Perth.

“Curtin University has consistently produced technically strong, globally minded graduates. Having worked closely with Curtin in Perth, we see significant potential at Curtin Dubai as we expand into the GCC,” Mr Pillay said.

Professor Chithirai Pon Selvan, Director of Research and Head of the School of Science and Engineering, said the partnership strengthens Curtin Dubai’s focus on future-oriented education.

“This collaboration with LatConnect60 provides our students with exposure to applied satellite technologies and advanced data analytics,” Professor Selvan said. “It enhances our capacity to prepare graduates for careers in rapidly evolving sectors such as space technology, geospatial intelligence and computational science.”

As Curtin Dubai deepens its engagement in space-tech and innovation, students can explore future-ready pathways in areas such as computer systemscyber security, and artificial intelligence, designed to equip them with the knowledge and experience needed to thrive in tomorrow’s tech landscape.
