Students from Curtin University Dubai’s School of Business and Humanities have gained firsthand exposure to large-scale operations and sustainability practices during an industry visit to Dubai Refreshment P.J.S.C., Pepsi Cola Bottler (PepsiCo), on 9 October 2025.
The visit provided undergraduate and postgraduate students with an opportunity to observe how a major organisation integrates sustainability, operational efficiency and technology into its daily processes. The experience aligns with Curtin Dubai’s focus on industry-engaged learning and the application of theoretical concepts in real business environments.

The day commenced with a session led by Waleed Abdel Azim, Safety and Security Supervisor at PepsiCo, who outlined the company’s sustainability initiatives and the role of environmental responsibility within operational decision-making. His presentation highlighted approaches to energy management, resource conservation and long-term planning, offering students practical examples that complemented topics explored in their academic programs.
Students then toured the Dubai Refreshments facility in Dubai Investment Park, where they viewed the site’s solar photovoltaic installation comprising more than 11,000 panels, as well as its wastewater treatment plant, which enables purified water to be reused in irrigation and logistics operations. Additional observations included the use of electric forklifts and other technology-driven measures designed to reduce environmental impact.
The visit continued with a guided walkthrough of the production floor led by Paul Macabasco, Production Administrator at PepsiCo. Students observed various stages of the manufacturing process, noting how automation, quality control systems and safety protocols intersect to support consistent and efficient operations. The tour provided a direct connection between classroom learning and practical application in a high-volume production environment.

Master of Business Administration in International Business student Alivra D’Souza said the visit expanded her understanding of operational management and sustainability practices.
“Seeing the facilities and processes firsthand provided valuable insight into how large organisations integrate sustainability and ensure operational excellence,” she said.
Students concluded the visit with a strengthened understanding of organisational processes, sustainability frameworks and the skills required to operate in complex business environments.
The experience forms part of Curtin Dubai’s broader commitment to industry-linked education and the development of career-ready graduates. For more information about industry engagement opportunities, contact admissions@curtindubai.ac.ae.
