Curtin University Dubai recently participated in the 20,000 Trees Planting Initiative, launched by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) in collaboration with Dubai Municipality and supported by Dubai International Academic City (DIAC). The initiative commemorates 20 years of leadership by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, and reflects Dubai’s long-term commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
As part of the initiative, Curtin Dubai contributed by planting trees within the DIAC premises. Members of the Sustainability Club, Student Council, along with staff and faculty, took part in the on-site planting activities and supported event coordination.

The 20,000 Trees Planting Initiative highlights the impact of collective action in advancing environmental goals. Through this contribution, the Curtin Dubai community supported the UAE’s efforts to expand green spaces and promote sustainable communities, while aligning with Curtin University’s 2030 strategy to encourage environmental responsibility and student engagement.

It was meaningful to take part alongside fellow students, staff and faculty in an initiative that reflects both national and institutional sustainability goals. Working together on the ground reinforced the value of collaboration and showed how collective action can contribute to a greener future.
