In a meaningful tribute to World Earth Day, the Curtin University Dubai ASHRAE Student Branch hosted the fifth edition of its annual Inter-University Research Poster Competition on 22 April 2025. Centred on the theme “Energy Conservation for a Sustainable Future”, the event continues to grow as a leading platform for university students across the UAE to present forward-thinking ideas in sustainability and climate-responsive engineering.

The 2025 edition saw a record turnout, with representation from top universities in the UAE. The competition played an important role in bridging academic research with real-world applications, offering emerging engineers and scientists the opportunity to showcase innovative thinking while addressing pressing global energy challenges.

The event featured an esteemed panel of judges, including Jason Michaud, CEO and Founder of Stardust, and Mohammed Murtaza, Secretary of the ASHRAE Falcon Chapter. Abdallah Mahmoud, President of the ASHRAE Falcon Chapter, attended as Chief Guest, delivering an address that underscored the importance of industry-academic collaboration before presenting awards and certificates to the winning teams.

Extending beyond technical presentations, the event also incorporated an Earth Day Awareness Slogan Writing Drive under the theme “Drive for a Sustainable Future”. This initiative encouraged participants to combine technical knowledge with creative expression, reinforcing their commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable practices.

As the Inter-University Poster Competition continues to expand each year, it reflects Curtin University Dubai’s ongoing focus on fostering student-led innovation and dialogue. By bringing together diverse academic perspectives, the event highlights the critical role of higher education in shaping solutions for a more sustainable and energy-efficient future.

Through initiatives such as the ASHRAE competition, Curtin University Dubai continues to empower students to translate learning into impact. By creating opportunities to engage with industry leaders and real-world challenges, the university is actively supporting the development of future-ready talent equipped to contribute to the UAE’s sustainability agenda.

As the competition grows in scale and influence, Curtin University Dubai strengthens its role as a platform for emerging talent, where ideas, innovation, and purpose come together to shape a more sustainable future.
