Curtin University Dubai has recognised two significant academic achievements during the 2025 Graduation Ceremony, awarding the title of John Curtin Distinguished Professor to Professor Chithirai Pon Selvan and conferring the degree of Doctor of Philosophy on Dr Ahmed Abdullah A. Almohaimeed.

The title of John Curtin Distinguished Professor is one of the University’s highest honours, awarded to academics who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, research excellence and sustained contribution to their field. Professor Selvan, Director of Research and Head of the School of Science and Engineering, was acknowledged for his work in sustainability, engineering education and community-focused research impact.

Professor Selvan’s contributions have supported the development of interdisciplinary research opportunities and strengthened Curtin Dubai’s engagement with industry partners, particularly in sustainability and technology-driven innovation. His recognition reflects Curtin’s global commitment to advancing research that addresses emerging societal and environmental challenges.

The University also awarded a Doctor of Philosophy to Dr Ahmed Abdullah A. Almohaimeed for his thesis examining corporate taxation, income shifting and behavioural outcomes in financial reporting. Dr Almohaimeed’s research provides insights into taxation practices, regulatory considerations, and their influence on financial decision-making. His work contributes to academic discourse in accounting and finance and offers practical implications for policy and industry stakeholders.

Pro Vice-Chancellor and Academic President Professor Ammar Kaka said both recognitions reflected Curtin Dubai’s growing research profile and its alignment with Curtin University’s global research strengths.

“These achievements highlight the calibre of research conducted at Curtin Dubai and the University’s commitment to recognising academic excellence,” Professor Kaka said.
“Professor Selvan’s leadership and Dr Almohaimeed’s scholarly contribution demonstrate the impact our academic community continues to make in advancing knowledge and informing practice.”

Both honours were awarded as part of the 2025 Graduation Ceremony, underscoring the University’s continued focus on academic distinction, research impact, and the development of future-ready graduates.
