Curtin University continues to strengthen its global research impact through a collaborative publication titled Buildings for the 21st Century, recently published by MDPI as a topical collection reprint. The book was co-edited by Professor Wahidul K Biswas from Curtin University Perth and John Curtin Distinguished Professor Chithirai Pon Selvan from Curtin University Dubai, demonstrating a strong One Curtin University approach to research collaboration across campuses.

The publication brings together contributions from leading researchers worldwide and addresses some of the most pressing challenges facing the built environment in the 21st century. The book explores emerging developments in sustainable construction, energy-efficient building technologies, smart and intelligent building systems, renewable energy integration, and innovative approaches to enhancing building performance and occupant wellbeing.

As the global construction sector seeks solutions to reduce environmental impacts while improving resilience and efficiency, the research presented in this volume provides valuable insights for academics, industry professionals, policymakers, and students working towards creating sustainable and future-ready built environments.

Professor Pon Selvan noted that this publication exemplifies the collaborative research culture fostered within Curtin University.

“This book represents the strength of the One Curtin University vision, bringing together expertise from Curtin Perth and Curtin Dubai to address global challenges in the built environment. Such collaborations enhance research excellence and contribute to developing sustainable solutions for future generations.”

The publication further reinforces Curtin University’s commitment to advancing interdisciplinary research and addressing global sustainability challenges through international collaboration.
