Dubai, UAE – Curtin University Dubai has partnered with The Junction, a popular black box theatre at Alserkal Avenue, to provide its students with opportunities to showcase their talents and grow in the performing arts.

The Junction has earned its reputation as a creative hub and a platform for emerging performers. It recently hosted Curtin Dubai’s student-led theatre club for its debut show: the Lamp of Wonders. The full-house production was a remarkable achievement as it was written, directed, and performed entirely by students. It underscored Curtin Dubai’s commitment to student development and The Junction’s dedication to nurturing young artists in the UAE. This collaboration reflects the shared vision of both institutions to create a thriving ecosystem for the performing arts.

Students will benefit from being able to perform every year, but also through pre-event guidance and mentorship provided by The Junction’s team. Senior members of The Junction will be invited to speak at the university, sharing insights and experiences that inspire and educate students. Students and staff will also enjoy special discounts on tickets to The Junction’s shows, workshops, and classes, making the arts more accessible to the university community.

Curtin Dubai is also proud to announce that a scholarship will be launched in September 2025, in time of the launch of the Design School at Curtin Dubai. This Scholarship, titled “The Junction Performing Arts Excellence Scholarship,” is in honour and recognition for the support being provided by The Junction, and will be awarded annually to an outstanding student in the arts. The scholarship covers up to 50% of tuition fees and will be presented to the awardee by The Junction’s founders or representatives.

“This partnership provides our students with unique opportunities to develop their skills and perform on a professional stage. It aligns with Curtin Dubai’s mission to offer holistic education and real-world learning experiences, and we are incredibly grateful to The Junction for their support towards our students,” said Shweta Wahi, Managing Director of Operations at Curtin University Dubai.

“We are excited to collaborate with Curtin Dubai to nurture young talent and contribute to the growth of Dubai’s arts community. The success of the Lamp of Wonders was just the beginning of many creative performances we aim to support,” said Gautam Goenka, Artistic Director & Co-Founder of The Junction.

Building a Stronger Arts Community

This collaboration is more than a partnership; it’s a commitment to fostering creativity, education, and artistic growth in the UAE. By joining forces, Curtin Dubai and The Junction aim to provide students and emerging artists with the resources and opportunities they need to succeed. Together, they create a vibrant arts ecosystem that celebrates talent, collaboration, and innovation. This exciting collaboration aims to support young talent, enhance student learning experiences, and strengthen Dubai’s vibrant arts scene.
