Curtin University Dubai is currently inviting applications for its full-time PhD program from qualified and motivated candidates committed to impactful research.
The program offers a fully funded opportunity to eligible candidates through the Curtin University Dubai PhD Studentship, which is designed to:
- enable outstanding candidates to undertake full-time doctoral study at Curtin University Dubai;
- build long-term research capacity across Curtin’s global campuses through cross-campus supervision and collaboration;
- advance research that is relevant to the UAE and the broader region, particularly in Renewable Energy & Net Zero, Psychology and AI, and the Future of Work.

Submit your interest
The steps below outline how to submit your interest for the PhD program.
Step 1: Prepare & submit a research proposal
The merit of your postgraduate research will be judged on your proposal.
It should:
• state your research topic
• outline your research plan and objectives
• show you have sufficient experience and knowledge in the area
• demonstrate your research is significant and ethical
• be accompanied by any cited references.
Step 2: Find a research supervisor
After submitting the expression of interest form, the Graduate Research School will assess your eligibility to proceed with the next phase of the application process.

Professor J Anitha Menon
An interdisciplinary researcher with over 30 years of expertise in Mental Health and Public Health.
Her work focuses on digital interventions and health equity for vulnerable populations, including youth and corporate wellness.
Professor J Anitha Menon holds a PhD in Psychiatry/Health Psychology. Her extensive career spans three decades of leadership in mental health, neuropsychology, and corporate wellness. She specializes in the psychological and structural determinants of health, with particular expertise in chronic illness self-management, suicide prevention, and culturally responsive digital interventions.
Prof Menon has led major internationally funded projects (including NIH and NIMH-supported research) and has successfully mentored over 35 Master’s and 9 PhD candidates to completion. Her research integrates mixed-methods design and implementation science to generate high-impact, policy-relevant outcomes.
- Methodological Expertise: Mixed-methods, RCTs, and large-scale epidemiological studies.
- Outputs: 250+ publications.

Professor Chithirai Pon Selvan
Professor Chithirai Pon Selvan A John Curtin Distinguished Professor with 25+ years of experience in engineering education and research. He specializes in sustainable solutions, advanced manufacturing, and renewable energy systems.
Prof Pon Selvan brings a wealth of academic leadership as the founding mechanical engineering faculty for multiple prestigious universities in Dubai. His research focuses on tackling complex engineering challenges through computational modeling, systems optimization, and materials characterisation.
An approved PhD supervisor at multiple global institutions, he has successfully guided numerous doctoral candidates and authored over 175 research articles and multiple books. His research group is dedicated to high-impact projects that bridge the gap between mechanical engineering and environmental sustainability.
- Technical Expertise: Renewable energy simulation, experimental design, and additive manufacturing.
- Outputs: 175+ research articles.

Dr Benita K. J. Veronica
Dr Benita K. J. Veronica Program Coordinator for IT & Cybersecurity with 15+ years of research experience. She specializes in AI-driven healthcare, medical image processing, and intelligent diagnostic systems.
Dr Benita holds a PhD specializing in Medical Image Processing. Her research broadly centers on developing sophisticated Machine Learning and Deep Learning models for early disease detection and predictive healthcare analytics.
A Scopus-indexed researcher, her work explores explainable AI-driven diagnostic frameworks, lung image segmentation, and smart healthcare wearables. Dr. Benita is an active contributor to the global research community as a session chair and PhD external examiner. Her work bridges the gap between academic theory and industry application through curriculum innovation and professional mentorship.
- Technical Expertise: Computer Vision, Deep Neural Network Architectures, and Clinical Decision-Support Systems.
- Outputs: Numerous Scopus-indexed journals and international conference papers.

Dr Nidhi Sehgal
Dr Nidhi Sehgal, Head of School – Business and Humanities and a Fellow of the Curtin Academy. She is an expert in Management and Human Resource Management, focusing on the Future of Work and the integration of sustainable technologies in business and society.
Dr Nidhi Sehgal is an academic leader holding a PhD in Business Administration, an MPhil in Management, and an MBA. As a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK), her expertise spans the Future of Work, Organisational Behaviour, and Human Resource Management. She serves as the UAE Country Chair for the G100 Higher Education and Industry Connect Wing, reflecting her deep commitment to bridging the gap between academia and global industry.
Her research addresses complex organisational and societal challenges, specifically exploring the impact of technology – such as service robots and AI – on employee well-being and consumer behaviour. Dr Sehgal is widely published in ABDC-ranked and Scopus-indexed journals and has edited several academic books with leading international publishers like Routledge and Springer Nature.
- Research Focus: Future of Work, Green AI Partnerships, and Quality Higher Education in the UAE.
- Outputs: Multiple edited books and recent publications in Journal of Service Theory and Practice and Sustainability.
Scholarship & supervisor info
Scholarship Details
Eligible candidates will be awarded a full scholarship that includes:
- 100% tuition fee support (up to 3 years)
- Monthly living stipend (up to 3 years)
- Reimbursement of research-related expenses (up to AUD 5,000 per year)
- Scholarships will be awarded in progressive rounds every six months.

Supervision
All candidates will be assigned a supervisory panel comprising:
- A primary supervisor based at Curtin University Dubai
- A co-supervisor from Curtin University, Australia, aligned with the candidate’s chosen research area
