What is SSC?

The SSC, or Student Success Centre, is a dedicated support hub at Curtin University Dubai that helps students excel in their academic journey. Whether it’s providing academic advice, hosting workshops, or connecting students with resources, the SSC is here to ensure students reach their full potential.

What do you offer?

At the SSC, we provide a range of academic support services designed to help students succeed, including personalised academic advice, study resources, mentorship programs, and study workshops. We aim to support students with:

  • Understanding assignment requirements
  • Study skills and time management
  • Academic writing skills (essays, reports, constructing paragraphs, etc.)
  • Academic reading skills (skimming, scanning, strategic reading, etc.)
  • Referencing (APA 7th and Chicago 17th B)
  • Paraphrasing and summarising
  • Numeracy skills and statistics
  • Microsoft Office skills
  • Basic research skills
  • Linguaskill/IELTS advice, along with self-study websites

Our goal is to support you at every step of your academic journey.

Academic Mentors and Study Buddies

Through our Academic Mentor program, senior students offer guidance on study techniques, assignment planning, and navigating university life. These mentors have been where you are now and can provide invaluable support and insights.

Steps to Get a Mentor:

  1. Email us at ssc@curtindubai.ac.ae with the unit you require support for.
  2. The SSC team will match you with a suitable mentor based on your needs.
  3. Meet with your mentor regularly throughout the trimester.

Our Study Buddy program pairs you with fellow students to work together on course material, share study tips, and keep each other motivated. It’s a great way to reinforce what you’ve learned and make new connections.

What events do we offer?

The SSC organises a variety of events to support students in their academic journey and ensure they make the most of their university experience:

  • Future Study Fair for Foundation Students: This event is designed to help foundation students explore their future study options. You’ll have the opportunity to meet with program coordinators and admissions officers to discuss your degree pathways, learn more about different courses, and get all your questions answered.
  • Meet a Mentor: Connect with senior students who have excelled in their studies and are ready to share their knowledge and experiences. Whether you need advice on managing coursework or tips on excelling in your exams, this is the perfect chance to meet potential mentors in person.
  • Just Ask: A consolidated workshop that runs for 30 minutes, combining essential skills such as time management and coping with exam anxiety. Learn how these skills are applied not just in university but in real-life scenarios, and get your questions answered by experts.
