Curtin University Dubai has launched the Pro Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Speaker Series, an initiative designed to strengthen knowledge exchange and engagement between academia, industry, and government.
Introduced by Pro Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Ammar Kaka, the series will feature influential leaders whose work contributes to addressing emerging societal, technological, and environmental challenges. The program reflects Curtin Dubai’s commitment to facilitating dialogue that supports research, policy development, and future-oriented learning.
The inaugural session, held on 25 September 2025 at Curtin Dubai’s campus in Dubai International Academic City, welcomed H.E. Professor Dr Abdallah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Consultative Council and former UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment. His Excellency delivered an address examining the intersection of infrastructure, sustainability, artificial intelligence, and future-ready cities, outlining the policy frameworks and technological developments required to support resilient and sustainable societies.

Professor Kaka said the Distinguished Speaker Series would provide the University community with opportunities to engage directly with experts shaping developments across key sectors.
“This series brings together global leaders and emerging talent, helping our students and staff better understand the issues influencing the future and the skills needed to respond to them,” Professor Kaka said.
Reflecting on the session, H.E. Professor Dr Al Nuaimi highlighted Curtin Dubai’s role in fostering an environment that supports learning and innovation.
“At Curtin Dubai, you are in the right place, with the right environment and the right community to contribute meaningfully to sustainability and the development of a sustainable future,” His Excellency said.

Director of Research and Head of the School of Science and Engineering Professor Chithirai Pon Selvan said the series would help connect global expertise with local priorities.
“The future will be shaped by how we address challenges in sustainability, infrastructure and technology,” Professor Selvan said. “By creating platforms for collaboration, we ensure these issues are approached collectively, with insights that inform both research and practical solutions.”
