Engineering Lecturer

POSITION SUMMARY
The Engineering Lecturer is responsible for the teaching of Engineering units in line with the academic standards offered across undergraduate and postgraduate courses at Curtin Dubai. The candidate is expected to have an approach to teaching that is student-centred and will be responsible for conducting tutorials, grading and other immersive learning experiences in accordance with established course outlines and lesson plans, besides maintaining student class attendance records and be available during student consultation hours.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Core responsibilities
- Assisting in the development of course material
- Conducting lectures, tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, and student field excursions
- Unit coordination including assignment moderation
- Marking and Assessment Invigilation
- Consultation with Students
- Undertaking administrative functions as required under the direction of the Head of School or PVC
- Attendance at departmental and/or faculty meetings and/or membership on a number of committees
- Working with the Student Success Centre on student teaching and learning issues
- Participation in school and industry outreach
- Contributing to the marketing activities for the campus
- Maintaining an active research portfolio
Academic Leadership:
- Oversee the delivery of the Engineering program.
- Foster an environment of academic excellence and innovation.
- Coordinate and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
Student Support:
- Provide academic advising and mentorship to students within the program.
- Address student concerns, grievances, and provide support for academic success.
- Work with the academic departments on teaching and learning issues and academic integrity matters.
- Organise industry visits, guest lectures, seminars, workshops from industry professionals for students.
- Coordinate internships, practicums, and other experiential learning opportunities for students.
- Develop and implement strategies to support student retention and success.
Community engagement
- Develop and maintain partnerships with industry, community organizations, and other academic institutions.
- Promote the program through outreach and engagement activities.
RELATIONSHIPS
- Work closely with the Heads of School – Science & Engineering to support academic delivery and operational effectiveness.
- Coordinate with Unit Coordinators at Curtin Perth to ensure alignment with curriculum requirements, assessments, and academic standards.
- Collaborate with internal support functions, including Admissions Services, Student Services, laboratory coordination teams, and operations, to facilitate effective academic delivery and student experience.
QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS
- An earned PhD in Mechanical Engineering or in closely related field or currently in the final stage of a PhD program
- 3–5 years of teaching experience in higher education
- Functional Expertise: Teaching and curriculum delivery in Mechanical Engineering discipline, including undergraduate and postgraduate levels, experience in student supervision, and academic coordination
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of Mechanical Engineering principles, academic research capability, use of engineering software/tools relevant to teaching and research, and familiarity with modern teaching technologies
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication skills, student engagement ability, teamwork, leadership, mentoring, and adaptability in a multicultural academic environment
- Certifications or demonstrated proficiency in Mechanical Engineering software tools such as AutoCAD, ANSYS, SolidWorks, MATLAB, and DFM-related applications, along with any relevant technical training certificates
- A solid track record in academic publishing (preferably indexed journals and significant publications within the prior five years)/ presenting research within your subject areas in recognized conferences or currently post-candidate in a PhD program
- Demonstrated ability to develop rapport with students
- Experience of working with a diverse range of students
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a part of a team
LOCATION AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This position is a full-time on-campus role.
